Ecohacks is a hackathon - a thinktank and competition aimed to encourage youth to solve some of the pressing environmental issues we face today by utilizing computer software in new and innovative manners. Keynote speakers with expertise in the fields of technology and environmental science will aid students in the realization of their ideas.

Eligibility

Participants: Currently in high school or university, and are not organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, or in any other priveleged position at the event

 

Requirements

 

  1. Teams may gain advice and support from organizers at the hackathon.
  2. All work on the final project must be done at the hackathon to be eligible in the competition.
  3. Teams may use an idea that was brainstormed prior to the event, so long as no external work was completed to advance the idea outside of the hackathon.
  4. Teams are allowed to improve an existing service/product to  improve its sustainability.
  5. Teams are permitted to use APIs, open data sources, source code, and libraries in their hackathon projects. However, working on a project before the event is strongly discouraged as it is largely against the spirit of hackathons.
  6. Teams are able to continue building their hacks until it is their turn to pitch. The order will be chosen randomly.
  7. Hacks that violate the Code of Conduct are not permitted. Teams who violate the Code of Conduct or the Event Rules will be subject to disqualification at YENYR’s discretion.
